This project converts a late Victorian terrace, one serving as a tenanted Jewish prayer house, into a welcoming and adaptable family home that honours its historic origins. A light palette creates an airy foundation that emphasises the home’s generous internal volume, while sculptural and decorative elements imbue the interior with depth and personality. The refined interior seamlessly blends the old with the new, offering a nostalgic, sophisticated, and functional home for modern living.

We introduced a series of simple yet impactful changes to improve the home’s quality of space. New custom timber doors to the hallway draw much-needed natural light into the formal front rooms – now, a central family hub enjoyed with gatherings of friends.

In collaboration with some of Sydney’s finest joiners and furniture makers, we designed a series of carefully crafted, bespoke furniture pieces to enhance the interior’s expression. A highlight of these collaborations is the dining room’s organic-shaped table, meticulously made from mahogany timber gifted to the client by her father, a retired ship-maker. These additions ensure the home’s interiors are more than just aesthetically pleasing; they tell a meaningful story.

In response to the growing demand for a ‘work from home’ setup, this office provides generous storage and a charming view of Bondi's bustling foot traffic, supporting productivity and wellbeing.

Joinery and furnishings are enlivened by tactile materials that add to the cosy and inviting quality of the home. Tonal variations offer visual interest from one room to another, while maintaining an overall sense of tranquillity. A bespoke, sculptural table and banquette, using luxurious walnut timber, showcase our collaborative efforts with local furniture artisans, adding a touch of unique sophistication to the space.

Combining fluted glass, natural stone, walnut timber, and fine porcelain bathware, the main ensuite crafts a refined and restful oasis – a place to unwind at day’s end.
